Ok, I was never going to get married or have children. I was going to leave " the rock", come back to the
states after a lifetime (or so it seemed) away from it, and POW! --life would lay itself down at my feet and
off we would run together!!
And now, for the rest of the story. I finally left PR after spending 9 years down there. Roosey Roads'
school system was the only one I remembered. I was almost a part of the native group of kids having
attend there from 4th grade up. I was so happy to finally leave after graduating not totally realizing what a
totally awesome experienced I had the privilege of having while living there. Attended a small Jr. college in
North Florida and then transferred to a much larger college in Orlando (big mistake!) and hooked up with
an old Roosey buddy--Celia Pagan. We had way too much fun for two girls who were trying to get an
education. I'm still very sorry Antonio for corrupting you!!!! It was there were I met my husband, a love at
first sight sorta thing. We were married shortly after that and have been together for close to 15 years
now. Needless to say the education still sits on the back burner....
We traveled a little, were up in Massachusetts for a short time, beautiful place, odd people. Nothing like
the southern folks down here in the south that I'm used to now. Lived in Charleston till Hugo blew
through, and decided after that that we really didn't want to go through that again and have moved to the
small town where my husband grew up--Harlem Georgia. Its outside of Augusta, the one-stop light sorta
town where everyone knows you, lucky for me I didn't grow up here!!! My daughter is fourteen, taking
after her father in doing much better in school then her ma, but is throwing the shot put and discus on the
track team for her middle school, so not all ma's traits are lost!!!
Miraculously I have stayed in touch with a few people over the years, thank goodness for them in being
persistent in calling me every now and then...Thanks Doug!! I attended the reunion in Pensacola a couple
years ago with the family. It was so wonderful to see so many friends I thought I would never see again.
My husband really brought the truth to my eyes in talking about how special and unique our time together
down in Puerto Rico was. We were many different souls, brought together in an environment had we been
anywhere else (namely the states) we might not have become the life-long friends we have become. For
those like him, who live in the town where they grew up and went to school, the bond they have is nothing
like the bond we had down there. I have so many wonderful memories, and some not so nice ones, and
probably way too many I can't remember, but all in all, those are years I would not trade for anything. I
love all of you guys, and look forward to seeing many of you in Charleston, and staying in touch with ya'll
too!!!
God bless ya'll!!!! kristin
