SHREVEPORT, LA - A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Dorothy
Catherine Berger Bocchini at 11 :30 a.m. on Saturday, February 14,
2004, at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, 939 Jordan St., by
Reverend Father Curtis Woods, Rector of the Cathedral.
Dottie was born on July 5, 1946 in Providence, Rhode Island,
and died on February 10, 2004, of complications from breast
cancer. Her body will be donated to LSUHSC-Shreveport for medical
research and education.
Dottie received a BA in Art from the University of Maryland.
She was an Art Therapist at Crownsville State Hospital in Maryland
until moving to Shreveport in 1977. Dottie was a creative, witty,
clever, kind, and gentle person who dearly loved her family and
friends. She enjoyed volunteering, serving as a docent at the
Meadows Museum, rescuing stray animals, reading, participating in
her Book Club, drawing, and creating pottery. She was an avid
collector of antiques and a strong supporter of the Arts. Dottie
will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Dottie is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Frank Berger
and Dorothy Catherine Gavin Berger. She is survived by her husband
Joseph Anthony Bocchini, Jr. MD.; daughters Claire Elizabeth, Anna
Catherine, Mary Victoria, and Jane Louise Bocchini; sisters Ann
Marie Grace and husband Charles Grace III, and Jane Elizabeth
Berger; stepmother Adele Smith Berger, stepbrother David G. White,
and stepsister Donna B. May.
The family expresses our sincere gratitude for the care
provided by Drs. Gary Von Burton, Kim Jones, Anil Veluvolu, and
Chad Hargon; the nurses in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic, and the
staff of the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center and LSUHSC-S Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made
in her name to the LSUHSC Foundation, 1501 Kings Highway, Box 105,
Shreveport, LA, 71103. All memorials will be directed to the
Children's Hospital of LSUHSC.
