Hey All,
I’m the last in the Benton line up of five kids (three actually graduated R.R.H.S.). We all moved back to our hometown of Charleston, S.C. in ’75 after five great years in P.R., except Arch Jr., who was already in college by then. I had to finish out H.S. here in Chas., so, I skipped a year and graduated in ’77. I then went on to college and graduated with an Associates Degree in Commercial Graphics in ’80. The family is still all here, except Arch, Jr., of course, who settled down in Asheville, NC.
I have had a few close calls, but never got hitched. I am happily domestic – who needs a ring? I guess I am settling down a little now; just bought a house from my Dad last year here in Ladson, SC. No kids either, just a big dog named Murphy, who tests my patience daily. My sister, Arlene, lives a block down the street and has a garden to die for (I guess she inherited the ‘green thumb’ in the family). My oldest sister, Adriana, lives about five miles away from us. Her son, Beowulf, lives right next door to her with his wife, Tamara, who is due to have a baby in mid May, 2002. So, I’m gonna be a Great Aunt soon. Wow, how the time flies! My brother, A.J., lives next to Mom and Dad on Wadmalaw Island, which is about an hour away. My parents are both doing great; just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in December, 2001.
I am in the shipping business now, after being a starving artist for many years, I decided that I had to find a ‘real’ job. I tried my hand at being a Housing Supervisor in the dorms of a culinary school, which was a lot of fun. I did that for over five years, but quit to start a sign company with my brother, A.J. Now, I am an ocean export agent in charge of consolidating freight weekly to Italy. I ship stuff all over the world, so, I’m finally understanding the geography that I never learned in school. That was my worst subject in P.R.! Go figure.
